ART 269C is an on-site study of the art/architecture of Hawaii using lectures and discussions and/or an art studio medium as a tool to analyze, understand and appreciate the development of this region's art/architecture. This course provides a rare opportunity to study art (historical and contemporary) through visiting art museums and private art collections located in the state of Hawaii. Accompanied by an instructor, participants experience a blend of scholarship, history and culture of Hawaii, an important region in terms of art and architectural history, through first-hand experience of the arts and fellowship. The course includes instructional meetings before and after a series of field trips, slide lectures and group discussions. Keeping sketch journals, field trips log, and essays as well as on-site group discussions are required for the grade. |
